
How to add A Record & CNAME Record using Simple Zone editor
cPanel Zone files :
cPanel Zone files facilitates the Domain Name System (DNS) to map a Domain Name to an IP address.
cPanel Zone files provides resource records which are stored in server.
Zone files can be added and removed from the Simple Zone Editor.
Two types of resource records can be added to the Simple Zone Editor
- A Record &
- CNAME Record.
How to add ‘A Record’ to Simple Zone Editor :
The A type of resource records usually contain the IP address of a host and hence called as Host Name Records.
A resource records map the Domain Name with the IP address.
The A type record can be added by following steps
Step 1 : Click Simple Zone Editor from cPanel Domain Section
Step 2 : Select Add an A Record from Simple Zone Editor prompt
Step 3 : Provide the Name and IP address in the text boxes
Step 4 : Click Add an A Record. A Success message appears on successful adding of an A Record.
A type of records are by default configured by cPanel as soon as they are added.
A records are very important for accessing the website.
They facilitate the DNS servers to identify the website and the services.
How to remove an A Record from Simple Zone Editor :
List of records shown under User-Defined Records
Click => Delete to remove the records
How to add ‘CNAME Record’ to Simple Zone Editor :
CNAME Records facilitates in adding an Alias to the domain name.
Multiple CNAME records can be pointed to one A Record.
The CNAME record can be added by following steps
Step 1 : Select Add a CNAME Record, by scrolling down the Simple Zone editor
Step 2 : Provide the desired Alias name for CNAME Record and provide the Full Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) in CNAME textbox.
The desired Alias will be pointing to the FQDN thus created
Step 3 : Click Add CNAME Record. A Success message appears on successful adding of a CNAME Record.
How to remove an CNAME Record from Simple Zone Editor :
Find User-Defined Records under Simple Zone Editor.
Select the Delete link against the Record desired to remove.
A Success message appears on successful removal of an A or CNAME Record.
DNSSEC :
DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) add a layer of security to your domains’ DNS records.
DNSSEC uses digital signatures and cryptographic keys to validate that DNS responses are authentic.
These digital signatures protect clients from various forms of attack, such as Spoofing or a Man-in-the-Middle attack.
How to Enable DNSSEC :
To enable DNSSEC for a domain, perform the following steps
If this account owns more than one domain, select the domain that you wish to manage from the Domain menu.
Click Enable. The system will generate a new DNSSEC key, and a new line will appear that contains the following information
Disable DNSSEC :
To disable DNSSEC for a domain, perform the following steps
- If this account owns more than one domain, select the domain that you wish to manage from the Domain menu.
- Click Disable.
